Welcome to Sheffield University Radio Station
Sheffield's No.1 Student Radio Station

Meet The Team

Station Manager

Ben Kennard
I'm Ben, a first year politics student, and I got involved with Sure because my life really does revolve around music. It's a great honour for me to be Station Manager and I'm really keen to help the station realise its vast potential. As Station Manager, I make sure everything runs smoothly, from the day-to-day workings to heading the committee. Above all, Sure is as much our station as it is yours - if you've got any comments or new ideas, we're keen to hear them.

Enjoy!

Assistant Station Manager

Nick Birtles
Nick's role as Assistant Station Manager encompasses all aspects of Sure Radio, from the tiny cogs of musical development to the gargantuan task of maintaining and developing the station's output. He joined Sure Radio in 2006 and previously held the position of Secretary.

Assistant Station Manager

Katie Richardson
Katie works with Station Manager Ben to maintain the everyday smooth running of the station. She likes to extend her support and general care in order to nurture the wellbeing of the committee around her for a fully functioning and happy radio station.

Secretary

Joe Allen
Joe became secretary in March 2008, stepping down as Station manager. As well as writing up the minutes from each committee meeting, Joe's role as Secretary involves notifying members of upcoming events and Sure activities. Joe also has the responsibility of helping to organise the notorious Sure Radio socials.

Treasurer

Alex Episcopou
The basic description of the Treasurer's role is simply making sure that all the costs are paid and that there is enough money to cover them, although I like to think that there is more to it then that. Being on the committee also allows me to get involved with all the fun at Sure, which is no bad thing.

Head of Technology

Jed Howlett
Jed's role as Head of Technology means he has the unenviable task of making sure the station is on the air without any technical problems. He's the first point of call should any issues arise with the equipment and/or software and the first person at the scene should the unthinkable happen!
Overall, Jed is responsible for keeping the software and hardware maintained and also keeping an eye out for new technologies which would benefit the station.

Head of Programming

Amy Woodworth
As Head of Programming, Amy manages the weekly schedule, supports existing programmes and helps new shows get on the air. During her time in office, she hopes to encourage more of the university's talent to get involved with the station and expand the range of shows and podcasts on offer.

Head of Music

Jen Carr
Jen has been involved with Sure since 2007, and at the moment she presents and produces a show. As Head of Music, she sorts through the promo CDs, book bands for live sessions and interviews and create playlists with the help of the music committee.

I am happy to receive any ideas or suggestions related to music so feel free to email me.

Head of Production

Giles Davy
As Head of Production, Giles masters and maintains the dynamic sound of Sure, seeking new and exciting ways to create jingles and adverts whilst running the station's playout software, Myriad. Giles has been working at Sure since his Fresher's year and this is his second committee role, having already completed a year as Assistant Station Manager. Expect wonderful and enticing noise over the next year.

Head of Promotions

Matthew Smith
Matthew's role as Head of Promotions within Sure is multi-faceted. He organises all the promotional material during Freshers - all those posters, flyers, stickers and everything else you see is down to him. Not only that, he organises all the Sure Live events.
He also liaises with outside companies who seek advertising on the radio, so he makes sure that Giles knows exactly what sort of jingle to make and what text it needs. If you have any questions or would like to get involved in the promotions team.

Head of News

Kate Irwin
Kate has been involved with Sure since October 2007. As Head of News, she oversees all the news programming on Sure Radio. Her role includes recruiting and training people for the news team, organising interviews, working with press and PR reps and trying to solve technical dramas. Kate is always working to increase the quality and quantity of news on Sure and to give everyone the chance to get involved. She is dedicated to making the news interesting and accessible to the students of Sheffield and is always open to ideas and suggestions from listeners.

Assistant Head of News and Sports

Rohan Byrt
Rohan joined the Sure Radio sports team October 2007, after the previous Head of Sport Chris Hedley invited potential recruits to "come and talk sport for an hour or so". Since then, he has been actively involved in the weekly Sport On Sure show, speaking his mind on recent events in the ever-exciting world of sport. Following his election onto the committee, Rohan will be looking to help improve and expand the station's current news and sports coverage, alongside Kate. If you're passionate about news and/or sport and want to get involved in any capacity, get in touch.
